Munchkin Promotional Bookmarks non è un gioco da tavolo nel senso tradizionale: non ha regole di gioco, né turni, né vincitori. È una collezione di 42 segnalibri, ognuno dedicato a un’edizione speciale della famosa serie Munchkin. Li trovi spesso in feste da gioco, negozi specializzati o come omaggio durante eventi come il Free RPG Day. Sono pezzi da collezione, ma anche piccoli tributi al caos umoristico che ha reso Munchkin un fenomeno.
Ogni segnalibro porta un nome buffo e assurdo, ispirato alle espansioni del gioco: c’è quello della “Cavalry Charges!” per il mondo western, quello del “Buried Treasure” per la versione con i pirati, o ancora l’“Official Munchkin Bookmark of BRAAAAAAAAINS!” dedicato a Zombie Dice. Alcuni celebrano edizioni limitate come quella di Target, altre le espansioni più strampalate: il libro dei mostri da Halloween, quello con gli unicorni magici, persino un segnalibro per Munchkin Conan o Cthulhu che sembra uscito da un sogno bizzarro. Non c’è bisogno di giocarli: li tieni tra le pagine del tuo libro preferito, li appendi al muro, o li regali a qualcuno che capisce il senso dell’umorismo nero e senza limiti.
Non sono carte da gioco, non aggiungono poteri né modificano le partite. Ma per chi conosce Munchkin, ogni nome è un riferimento intelligente: “Clerical Errity Erroneosity Erroneousness” fa ridere solo se hai già giocato alla versione dei preti che sbagliano i rituali; “Arranged Derangement” ti ricorda il caos della quinta espansione dove tutto va storto per decreto. Alcuni segnalibri sono dedicati a giochi esterni ma nello stesso spirito, come Star Munchkin o Super Munchkin: un omaggio al fatto che l’umorismo di Steve Jackson si è diffuso in tanti mondi diversi.
Questo set non si vince. Non lo si completa. Lo si raccolgono, lo si mostra, lo si scambia tra amici con un sorriso e una battuta. È il tipo di oggetto che ti fa dire: “Ah, questo l’ho preso al Free RPG Day del 2015!” o “Mio cugino ha quello dei Clowntrooper Chaos — è peggio di lui.” È la testimonianza tangibile di una comunità che ride insieme, che celebra il caos con un po’ di carta e tanta ironia.
Non serve a niente. E per questo è perfetto.
Per chi ama Munchkin, questi segnalibri non sono solo oggetti: sono ricordi. Un pezzo di storia del gioco, stampato su cartoncino, con il tono che solo Steve Jackson sa dare: sarcastico, dispettoso e mai noioso. Li trovi raramente in vendita. Quando li vedi, non passare oltre. Prendili. Mettili da parte. E un giorno, quando qualcuno ti chiederà cos’è quel foglietto con scritto “The Official Munchkin Bookmark of Soggy Smiting!”, potrai sorridere e dire: “Ah, quello lì? È la storia di una battaglia persa in mare… ma con stile.”
